Fringe World opens TODAY! If you know me personally you know that in 2012 I discovered Fringe World and quickly became an addict. In 2012 Checkout the Muscial was the first Fringe show I saw that year and little did I know by 2015 I would see more than 20 shows in a season. I have been counting the days to this years Fringe World so I was beyond excited when I was contacted and asked if I would like to attend the Media Launch for this years new pop up venue The Parrott House, which is a transformed warehouse space that has been fitted out in true Fringe style.
The venue is part of the East Side Hub on 4 Sussex St in Maylands, it is a 2 minute walk from the Maylands Train station. There is no parking on site however there is ample street parking around the venue. The venue has an Industrial Cabaret Lounge feel to it with a little garden area set up with a tables and chairs out the back where you can enjoy a drink from the bar and a burger from the Margaret River Burger Co before, after or during the show.
The gardens have a lovely vintage meets modern vibe perfect to relax and enjoy a drink on a hot summers day or give your friends a run for their money with the giant chess board. The theatre boasts vintage seating rescued from the regal theatre to get closest to the action on stage with cabaret seating behind set up in the Chrissie Parrot Art warehouse.
We were lucky enough to have a preview of A Summers Night in Paris, 31st January and 11-13th Feburary. Catherine Summers and her 5 Piece jazz band were amazing, channeling the “Caberet de Paris” era it is no surprise 2 of Catherine’s 4 shows are already sold out. Catherine originally from the UK spent much of her youth in France fostering her love of the french language and it certainly shows when she sings it’s phenomenal.
I can’t wait to go back and enjoy The Parrott House, I am definitely going to head back to see Aventures of Improvised Sherlock Holmes. I will definitely be spending a lot of time hanging out at various Fringe World venues across the 2016 season so be sure to come and say hello if you see me.
Which shows are you looking forward to seeing this year? Would you like a few more posts about different venues and shows during the festival season?
